Preparing for your 1st Year Technical Graphics Exam
1 - Orthographic Projection
This is where we draw 2D views of a 3D object. You will need to be able to:
To revise this see:
- Draw a elevation, plan and end view of an object
- Decide which end view to draw
- Project between the views (there is more than one way to do this)
- Show hidden lines
To revise this see:

- Chapter 5 of your textbook
2 - Ellipse
You will need to be able to complete a drawing that contains an ellipse or part of an ellipse. Be able to use the circle method to draw an ellipse:

- p226 of your text book
3 - Isometric
You will need to be able to make a 3D drawing of an object in an isometric view. This involves:
- Setting up the axes
- Drawing an outline crate of the object
- Filling in the details
4 - Developments
This is where we unfold a 3D object into a 2D pattern. It is also called a net in maths.
- You will need to draw some 2D views such as plan, elevation or end view (good orthographic practice)
- Draw the fold lines in as dotted lines
- Make sure edges that touch are the same length
- There are many ways that you can choose to unfold the object
- Be able to develop a cylinder
5 - Transformations
You will need to be able to do the following transformations:
- Translation
- Central Symmetry (p284)
- Axial Symmetry (p282)
